What is Human Generated Content

1. Introduction

People are beginning to rely on artificial intelligence (AI) more and more each day. It is no longer just a buzzword, it is actually becoming part of our daily lives in some way or another. Whether it’s the music you listen to while you commute, the articles you read while waiting in line at the grocery store, or even the news stories that come up when you look something up online; AI has become ubiquitous in our lives.

Microsoft-backed OpenAI’s ChatGPT and more recently Google’s Bard have taken the tech world by storm since it was opened for public use as people worldwide got creative with prompts that the conversational chatbot uses to create everything from poems and novels to jokes, film scripts. books and web content, including the production of blog articles and reviews.

The artificial intelligence service could change how consumers search for information or create content on command and free up time for white-collar workers.  However it will make huge waves in the information compliance arena, where there are things that Humans are legally not allowed to say or remark upon.  How far do we rely on the confluenced information and opinion that the AI bots provide as their output to our questions.

2. What is the difference between human-generated content and AI-generated content?

Although both human-generated content and AI-generated content can be used to communicate information, the primary difference lies in the intent. Human-generated content is created with the intention of communicating something in particular and is written, created or recorded by a person.

3. How does AI create content?

AI creates content by searching for and reading the most popular articles on the web. AI compares those articles to determine what is popular and what isn’t. AI reads those articles and determines if they are relevant or not. AI then writes its own article that is similar to the “popular” ones, but different enough that it doesn’t get flagged as plagiarism.

4. The benefits of human-generated content

Humans are still undeniably the best at generating content for the web. The average person spends up to five hours a day consuming content on their computer or mobile device, and it is human-generated content that they will see the most. The benefit of human-generated content is that it adds personality and authenticity to your blog and website.

A lot of people prefer to read blog posts or watch videos created by humans than those generated by machines. Humans are capable of showing emotions and feelings through words, which is not something that computers can do. People tend to trust content written by other humans more than they do computer-generated content.

5. Google – Experience, Expertise, Authority and Trust.

Content creators and in particular SEO’s are well acquainted with the concept of E-A-T, which is utilised to determine whether our search ranking systems are providing relevant and valuable information for the website visitor. However, it is uncertain whether the average person perceives the results they obtain as exhibiting expertise, authoritativeness, and trustworthiness.

To better evaluate our outcomes, the concept of E-A-T is being expanded to include experience(EEAT). Is it evident that the content was generated by someone with practical experience, such as using a product, visiting a place, or sharing personal encounters? In some circumstances, what is most valuable is content produced by a person with firsthand knowledge and experience on the topic at hand.

For instance, if an individual seeks information on how to accurately complete tax returns, it is advisable to look for content created by an accounting specialist. However, if someone is looking for reviews on tax preparation software, they may require a diverse range of information, such as forum discussions from individuals who have experience with various services.

It is obvious that an AI is unable to exhibit experience or expertise but only provide an aggregate of what is published by humans on the internet where it scrapes information from.  The risk here is that Google can not only identify content produced by an AI from it’s sentence structures and database, it may also start to penalise sites that are programatically built utilising AI produced content.

6. The drawbacks of human-generated content

When content is generated by humans, there are clearly some drawbacks to it. These may include biased opinions or a lack of consistency in the quality of writing. On the other hand, automated systems have their own problems as well. The computerized algorithms used for generating these pieces of content do not always produce high-quality results.

There are many drawbacks to human-generated content. One of the biggest is that people have different writing styles, so there is no guarantee that your message will be conveyed effectively. If you are hiring a writer who doesn’t know your business well enough, his or her writing style might not match yours at all, making it difficult for readers to understand what you are.

Humans generating content also has the cost of time, wages, contracts and expertise. It is certainly attractive to allow a machine to propagate the content that previously was a human’s job, but are we actually as readers getting what we paid for or subscribed to.

7. The drawbacks of AI-generated content

While the use of AI in content production is a great way to save time and resources, it is not without its drawbacks.

A July 2018 study from the University of Southern California cites that, when compared with human-generated content, AI-generated content “fails to establish a sense of trust” with readers. That’s the ‘T’ in EEAT. The reason for this is simple:

With the rise of AI-generated content, there are some drawbacks that writers should be aware of. The first is that it can cause confusion for readers because they may not know if it’s generated or written by humans. Some examples include incorrect grammar, typos, and odd sentence structure. This type of writing also lacks creativity, which makes it difficult to read and understand.  We have also seen evidence of the AI starting to hallucinate and make up it’s own answers or lie, when it can’t locate a valid answer.

Final Word

Human-generated content is better than AI-generated content. Because the content that is generated by humans has a more personal touch and meaning than AI-generated content.

Artificial Intelligence is necessary to make the internet a better place, but it still cannot replace human creativity or the experience and expertise of a real person that writes from their own life.
